How many PingPlotter/MultiPing licenses do I need to stay within the terms of Pingman Tools' licensing agreement?
Answer
The amount of licenses a user may need depends entirely upon their intended deployment of the program. There are two basic license types which can meet a variety of different needs, which we'll cover below.
Single User License
Single user licenses for PingPlotter and MultiPing have a "reasonable use" policy - meaning that you can have the program installed on a handful of different machines (Windows and OSX alike), so long as you're only running the program on one machine at a time.
For example: you could use a single user PingPlotter license to have the program installed on 2 different machines (lets say your home computer, and your work computer). You can run the program on either machine, so long as it's not running on the other machine at the same time. If you should find yourself needing to run PingPlotter on both machines at the same time, then you'd need an additional license to do this.
With active maintenance, you can also install the iOS PingPlotter app (with added features) on your personal iOS devices (our basic iOS app is free).
Multi-Computer Licenses
Multi-computer licenses work based off of the amount of machines that you've purchased for. For example, if you've purchased a 5-computer license, you can use that license to install the program on a total of 5 machines (if you should find that you need to install it on a 6th machine, you'd need to purchase an additional license).
If you should find yourself needing to uninstall the program from one machine to install on another, this is completely possible (and well within the terms of our licensing agreement, as long as you do not exceed your license count). Installation on a Terminal Server
Installation of our programs on a terminal server is possible, but there are a few things to be aware of depending on your intended usage.
If you're going to be installing on a terminal server and having users access their own instance of a program from their own individual profile - then you would need a license for each user that would be accessing the program. In this scenario, each user profile can be interpreted as a separate machine, so you'll want to make sure you have enough licenses to cover everyone's usage.
If your users are going to be accessing the same running instance of the program (same target list, configuration, etc), then a single license should suffice for this usage.
