I've been getting consistent 2-15% packet loss on fortnite for about two weeks now, and connecting to google and such has been very glitchy too. My speed tests are good(11ping 115down/15up) but they take a long time to connect, heres my screenshot, what do i do?

Hi there,

Thanks for writing in - I'm sorry you're having problems with Fortnite!

The first step towards successful troubleshooting is finding the right target(s) to trace to. We've actually compiled a list of some Fornite servers you can use here:

52.202.165.66 - Virginia, USA

52.84.25.142 - Washington, USA

52.94.4.134 - Ohio, USA

52.94.17.2 - California, USA

52.94.6.20 - Seoul, Republic of Korea

54.85.146.68 - Virginia, USA

https://www.pingplotter.com/wisdom/gaming/fortnite.html

Next, I would highly recommend looking into our network troubleshooting guide:

https://www.pingplotter.com/fix-your-network/getting-started/find-a-target.html

Lastly, if you could send over a few hours of trace data from your Fortnite server, Google, and your router (usually the IP address of the first hop in your traces), I'll gladly take a closer look with you! (If you're using Free edition, then 10 minutes is just fine too.)

You can share the data with us in 1 or 2 ways:

1. Open a single trace window > set your Focus field to All > File > Share > Create Share Page. Your new share page will be opened up with your default browser. Then, copy/paste the URL into your reply.

2. Within a single trace window > File > Export Sample Set > All Data. After the data is saved, reach out to us at support@pingplotter.com and attach the .pp2 data files.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

All the best,
-Austin

Thank you so much for your response! I tested the California server because I'm in Nevada, these are my results!

Hey there,

Thanks for submitting those share pages!

I looked over the data and it looks like your local network connection is pretty healthy. Even with 1-2% packet loss to Google (which is within normal range), that's not too bad. The latency is a tad high, but this is most likely due to the route your trace is taking.

The trace to this Fortnite server definitely looks odd though. As you can see at hop 9, the route switches from LA to Paris (which adds a HUGE amount of latency). It's possible that this may not be the correct server anymore. But if it is, then that would explain why you're having such a poor gaming experience.

At this point, I would recommend doing some further research to confirm the game server IP address you're using. Fortnite has a pretty heavy user/mod presence on their forums, and their support team may be able to help as well. Here's what we've gathered:

https://www.pingplotter.com/wisdom/gaming/fortnite.html

Here are some steps for finding and troubleshooting a game server:

*I'm not sure what platform you're using, but I would recommend downloading and using Fortnite on Mac or Windows for this test.*

1. Close all other applications, open up an active session of Fortnite, and use the "netstat -b" command. Copy/paste the output to a text editor, ex. notepad

2. Then, run the command a second time after closing down your game.

3. Cross-reference your results. The address that displays in the first result, but not the second, *should* be your game server.

Or if you're interested, you could contact their support team and ask for the IP/port number of your server:
https://www.pingplotter.com/wisdom/gaming/fortnite.html

We have an awesome article regarding lag in online games that may help:

https://www.pingplotter.com/wisdom/article/beat-game-lag.html

Lastly, there is also a chance that your ISP can help - they can potentially help you re-route this connection or find a better server

I hope that helps! Please feel free to reach out with any other questions.

All the best,
-Austin
