Hello,

Is it possible to run Multiping as a Windows service so a user does not need to be logged in. If so, will the e-mail alerting function work when it runs as a service?

Thanks.

MultiPing doesn't run *natively* as a service - you need something like FireDaemon (http://www.firedaemon.com/) or the utility in the Windows Resource Kit (which slips my mind at the present) to do this.

MultiPing *should* run fine once you've set it up with one of these tools, though. You can either create a specific workspace for loading (and then add that workspace as a command line parameter in your service load command), or you can allow MultiPing to use the default workspace on load. The workspace sets up the targets you're monitoring.

One you have the workspace created and the alerts set up, email alerts should work just fine (we've done a little testing with this when running FireDaemon, but not extensively). In addition, the "Log to File" and "Launch an executable" events should work fine as a service. The "Play a sound" and "Change the tray" events probably won't do much good unless you set up the service to interact with the desktop (which is possible, but has the downside that when you do log in to Windows and the log out again, MultiPing will close, and the service manager will need to restart it).
