I tried making my router pingable but this did not change anything.

The second and next to last hops show no information, no IP, and no DNS address, and have 100% packet loss. All the other hops show up fully. (There are nine in total.)

Thanks.

That's not unusual, and does not indicate that there's any kind of a problem.

A blank hop just means that responder is not configured to respond to requests where TTL=0. If the hop right after is fine, then you know the "non-responding" router is passing data down just fine.

We talk about this scenario in our VoIP troubleshooting guide:

Please let us know where this leaves you.

Best wishes,
Pete

Thanks. That was very informative and makes things a lot clearer.

So essentially hops that display no information w/100% packet loss are just not configured to be visible, and are not necessarily indicative of problems at those hops, right?

I'm troubleshooting my Comcast line and everything looks good out to about five hops from me (a series of Comcast addresses) and then there are about five hops with no info and 100% packet loss in a row before the last few hops are normal again. That's why I'm asking.
