Hi Pete, We are just about to purchase PingPlotter pro as we are very happy with the overall product. I have two questions/new suggestions.

1. Is there a way of copying a alert, I wish to set up about 10 very similar alerts and it would be very handy if I only had to change a few minor details on each.

2. We are running a Win2003 R2 server and I have setup PingPlotter Pro to run as a service however for some reason I cannot see the taskbar icon when I log into the server via remote desktop unless i use the 'connect to console' option. Is there a way around this?

Best Regards - Shane

Hi, Shane.

1) Copying alerts.

Most often when people want to create a bunch of alerts, it's because they want to do it with specific email subjects that include titles about the targets. Often, this same thing can be done with a single alert associated with multiple targets, and then using a variable to make the message adapt to the target. You can see the list of variables here:

http://www.pingplotter.com/manual/pro/variable_substitution.html

There's no way inside the alert editor itself to "clone" an alert. The only way to do this is to open the alerts.ini file and manually copy the alert and sections - which isn't really any easier than just creating a new alert and manually typing everything, by the time you change all the section names and make sure you update the increment counter. It's possible to do this way, though, if you're brave.

2) Win2003 R2 service / connect to console.

There's no way around this. We cover this topic in a knowledge base article here:

Hi Pete,
Thanks for your extremely prompt response

In regards to the email alert the reason is that I have 7 different sites all with varying latency to which i have set up alerts for. It was just something i thought of when setting them up. But it is of course not a huge issue cause i only have to set them up once... (just me being lazy... )

Thanks - Shane
