Hello,

Got an interesting issue... For an unknown reason, 50% of the time I'll open PP from the System Tray, the minimize button will not bring it back there. The icon will still appear in the system tray, but also in the Task Manager. To bring it back, I have to select Restore on the icon of the system tray, though. Doing it 5-6 time will finally bring it back there.

Any idea what is going on? It's just pretty annoying...

Hi.

There were some changes to the tray behavior in some of the 2.40 beta versions, and then again in the 2.40 gold release (to fix some issues similar to what you've mentioned here).

What operating system are you using? I'm assuming you're using the 2.40 release, but if you're not, make sure you have the 2.40 version.

Also, does double-clicking change the behavior at all, or does this just happen when you right-click?

How are you launching Ping Plotter? Are you using a shortcut that minimizes it to the tray on launch?

Thanks for the report!

- Pete

Edit: I read your title and see you're using NT4 - so no need to answer that question. Sorry I missed that on the first pass through.

Hello Pete,

Thanks for answering that fast! I have licensed Ping Plotter yesterday, I'm really happy with this tiny software..

Okay, so I'm using the version 2.40 on a NT4 machine, Sp6a installed, for the records..

Also, does double-clicking change the behavior at all, or does this just happen when you right-click?

Actually, it is happening when I'm pressing the minimize icon at the right of the window.

How are you launching Ping Plotter? Are you using a shortcut that minimizes it to the tray on launch?

I'm using the shortcut created by the program setup, and according to the properties, it will not be minimized.
The funny thing is that when i'm minimizing the window, it will minimized, it will just not respect the "Put Icon in tool Tray" option! When I right-click on the ping plotter entry of the task manager, the option displayed are "Minimized", and "Close". If I want to restore it, I have to right-click the PP Tray Icon and do restore...

I'm still looking for a way to break this behavior. Actually, stop and start PP seems to be the action that give the best result!

Thanks for the report!

Thanks for your fast response!

Hi, Eric.

I'm a bit stumped. No matter which way I twist and turn, I can't duplicate this behavior here on my NT4 SP6a test box, using Ping Plotter 2.40.

Can you do a couple of things? I'm hoping you can send me the exact steps you're following so I can reproduce this here. I usually interact with the software in a certain way - and I might be doing something different than you are.

I'd like a copy of your PingPlotter.ini file - send this to support@pingplotter.com. By default, it's in your \program files\ping plotter directory. Ideally, you'd send this to me when Ping Plotter is closed, and then record every thing you click and every step you do with Ping Plotter until the behavior is duplicated.

So, send the PingPlotter.ini file. Then, duplicate the issue, recording each item you click (please be explicit with this, instead of saying "Minimize Ping Plotter", say "click the minimize icon on the title bar of the application").

You're probably doing something a bit different than I normally do, and this must be causing some issues.

Thanks!

Pete
