Hello,

I moved to a new house 2 years ago and got an Orbi mesh home system connected to a NETGEAR CM1000 modem. The first year, I had no internet issues. Suddenly, I started getting heavy packet loss while gaming or working. These episode are consistent around 9 AM and then 2 PM.

I am the only other person in the house. It looks like the packet loss happens a lot in hop 1 and when hopping to my ISP. Help!!

The packet loss you experienced during your Zoom calls was first introduced at hop 2. This indicates there was either an issue with the route between hops 1 (your router) and 2 (your provider).

Thank you Tyson! Just so I understand, how did you know it was at hop 2 even though hop 1 showed the large packet loss bar. Did I interpret the chart wrong?

The way to interpret PingPlotter is by starting at the final destination, 8.8.8.8 in your case, and work your way back through the route to see if you can identify where that same pattern of packet loss was first introduced.

Since the packet loss you're seeing at hop 1 doesn't really match that at 8.8.8.8 then we can assume they're unrelated. Your router is probably just ignoring the echo requests PingPlotter is sending it when it gets a little busy. This is pretty common especially when the TTL value of those requests is 0.
