Pingplotter is up and running on FIOS.

The issue was, as you diagnosed, the router firmware. A few further items may help those faced with the same problem in the future.

The Verizon FIOS router in question is the ActionTec MI 424WR wireless/coax/cat 5 router specific to Verizon. Apparently support is primarily by Verizon. The built-in firmware revision program does not work, because when one goes to the target directory on the Actiontec site, the file cannot be found.

After many calls and several "Tiers" of tech support involving Bangladore and Colorado Springs, a very knowledgeble and helpful Actiontec tech emailed me the latest firmware beta. It cleared up the problem when installed.

Incidently, when the tech first tried to use tracert on his test router, it worked fine with the same bios version as mine....he was able to duplicate the problem with an older version of the firmware. The beta is Ver. 4.0.16.1.45.62. I had ...44.28.
