Hi there,
are there any known problems with V2.60 and sending emails?

I used V2.51 Demo until last week which worked absolutely fine. I defined several Alerts and got Emails as I needed.

Know I decided to register, and at the same time I updated to V2.60. Since this time I no longer get Emails. After pushing the TEST-button, I get the test-messages. So all settings seem to be OK!

As I have several complete packet losses on my line (thats why I decided o buy Pingplotter) I have to protocol this and want to get an email every time, this happens.

I have mad three Events:
1 to send me an email, when Alert starts
2.to send me an email, when alert ends
3 tp send me an email when alert is met

In demoversion that was functional. Now there isn't sent any mail!

I tried a second and a third machine! Always the same! :-(

Whats wrong?

TGW

To the best of our knowledge, there is no problem with PingPlotter 2.60 and sending emails.

It may be that the association between the alert you created and the target you want monitored was changed / removed somehow.

Make sure there is a bracket around the hop number of the hop you'd like to have monitored. Most likely, you want to monitor the final destination. If your route is 8 hops long, make sure the final hop shows with brackets, like this: [8]. If you're just seeing the hop number, then you need to associate the alert to the target (btw, this is *by far* the most often encountered problem with alerts).

Not firing alert (but configured on hop 10 - the [10] shows that the alert is associated with hop 10. Hops 9 and 11 do not have alerts associated):

That same alert, but now the alert conditions have been met:

Another way to check is to go in to the alert setup screen and hit the "Show Targets" button. If the target address isn't listed there, then you're not going to get alerted when that site stops responding. That's not the best place to add new targets, but is a way to check it out.

For more details on configuring (and troubleshooting!) alerts, see some of these resources:

Please let us know if this gets things working for you.

Hi Pete,
indeed, there are no brackets around the numbers! I've tried to install 2.51 parallel with the same settings, this works well.

If I am richt, I either have to define the Alert with right click on the target in the tracefield or I can set ALL in "Show Targets".

But nothing of both works, I get no brackets! Maybe there is anything wrong?I don't think that I have many chances to do wrong any more.

There is another question with alertdefining.
If I define Alert to "when alert condition start", set wait to 0 and frequency to 1, I only should get one Email, when this alert happens. Right? I got three Emails from this event which all three were generated at the same time. (Here using 2.51)

Thx for your answer! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Hi, Klaus.

To get the brackets on the hop (ie: set up the alert to monitor a specific target), right-click on the hop and select "Watch this host (Alerts)...". This will bring up a dialog where you can select which alerts you want to watch this particular hop (and you'll get brackets!).

I'm a bit confused on your additional question.

If you set up an alert for "when alert conditions start", you should get a single email when alert conditions start. If you also add a "Each time conditions are met", then you might get two (or more with a wait of 0).

After you get the alert working, please let us know how you have youralert configured and what behavior you're seeing and we'll help you get it set up the way you want.

Again, the Tutorial and Getting started guide offer a lot of information - and step-by-step instructions on how to get the alerts working.

If you can't get the brackets to appear (ie: alerts configured to watch a target), email your PingPlotter.ini and Alerts.ini files to support@pingplotter.com and we'll see if we can figure out what's wrong.
