Extension: Summary Name Override

Extension: Summary Name Override - 07/06/06 02:07 AM

Extension Goal:

The default behavior of PingPlotter Pro is to use the reverse-resolved target name on the summary graph. The problem with this is that any friendlier names you might have entered are not used there, which can make it more difficult to decipher.

Before installing this script, entering a domain name for a target would show that domain name in the trace graph, but it would show the reverse-resolved name on the summary graph (which may or may not be the same as the one you entered). After installing this script, the summary graphs will show the one you entered.

This can make your summary screen easier to read.

Required PingPlotter Pro version

This extension requires PingPlotter Pro 3.00.2p or later.

Installation Instructions
  • Download the attachment from this post (link near the title). The file will be named "Summary Name Override.ppx".
  • Save it in your "c:\Program Files\Pingplotter Pro\scripts" directory (or the appropriate path if you've not installed to that location).
  • Close and restart PingPlotter Pro.
That's it!

Wrap up

If you find any issues are problems, please post a message here or send an email to support@pingplotter.com.

Hi,

Staying on the topic of the summary ..... How do we publish the summary graphs on the web using the default web server. I dont want to use IIS and would like to give my users access to the summary view on the pingplotter URL.

I am using Ping Plotter Pro 3.00.1

In 3.10p (and earlier versions), there is no way to view the summary screen from the web server (built in or IIS). This is functionality we're currently working on, though.

Is there a way to edit this name?

The only way to edit this name is when you're entering an IP when you start the trace. We have information on that here:

http://www.nessoft.com/kb/23

We also have a script that we're working on that will let you edit the DNS Name of any of the hops in the trace. This is not fully tested yet, but if you want to try it out, email us at support@pingplotter.com and let us know you want to try the "Edit DNS Name" script.
