Webserver running very slowly.

Webserver running very slowly. - 09/09/07 07:55 PM

I've been watching 7 nodes for nearly a week with a spare laptop (P3-850/384M memory, Win2K Pro), 15-second ping times, and it's running really slowly. Switching between nodes takes 35 seconds to redraw the screen, and the CPU goes to 100% while it's doing that.

Is there some tuning I'm missing?

Thanks!

What is the memory footprint looking like on that machine after a week? It may be out of RAM - you can see some tips on minimizing RAM usage here:

If that's not it, send us a support ticket from the Help menu of PingPlotter Pro and we'll have a look at the stats and see if there's anything obvious.

It wasn't out of memory, but having the Focus Period on the Webserver summary screen set to "ALL" caused it to take forever to recalculate. Setting it to one hour seems to have gotten it under control.

Maybe you could notice that you are using all of the CPU (or that the CPU was still busy doing background calculations when you went to do another sample), and warn the user or back off a bit?

Thanks!

FWIW, PPPro doesn't seem to have that "Maximum samples to hold in memory" option.

It's just on a different spot on the beta. Check in Edit->Options, Auto-Save (in the configuration section you're interested in editing - Default Settings, or whatever).
