Round trip time

Round trip time - 05/30/01 10:40 AM

Hi,
just two short queries:
1) Given that the graph displays the total roundtrip time, is this the time that it takes the packet to get from source to destination and back to source again, or is it just the time from source to destination? I am assuming that RTT is there and back, but I think that I may be incorrect.
2) Additionally, does the packet return by the same route taken on the outward journry, or can it be re-routed via another path?

1) The time listed is the round trip time - not a one way time.

2) The return path can be different - depending on the router setups. There is no way to tell what the return path is unless you have control of the remote site you're tracing to and can run a trace going the other direction.
