Can someone help me understand my lag/packet loss? - 09/25/23 10:36 AM

I have been getting high packet loss and a lot of lag whenever I am playing video games, I even notice some lag when browsing web sites. One is from yesterday and one is from just now

Hi JRinker,

Thanks for getting in touch!

Based on the screenshots you sent over, I believe you're having an ISP issue.

You're seeing some packet loss at google.com that appears to be first introduced at either hop 2 or hop 3 (kind of hard to tell which based on the screenshot alone). These are typically in your service provider's network. I would recommend reaching out to their support team with this same information you've provided.

Here's a great guide on our website for building your case and making contact: https://www.pingplotter.com/fix-your-network/outside-network-problems/

Feel free to post more screenshots/PP2 files if you'd like more details.

Sorry for not being more clear on this!

You can share your PingPlotter data by creating a Share Page. Open your target then go to File --> Create Share Page. This will create a link to the data you've collected so that others can review it as well.

Feel free to post that link here and I'll be happy to take a look!

Sorry it took me a few days to respond, I had the xfinity tech come out to my house and "check everything on their end" he couldnt find anything wrong. He agreed that on pingplotter it looks like i have issues but he couldnt find any with his computer and whatever software they use to check. He swapped routers out but I'm still getting a bad ping and packet loss. This is an updated graph from today.

Today actually looks pretty good. I'm not seeing any packet loss or high latency getting to google.com (at least not in the data you shared).

I would recommend you keep collecting data until you experience issues again and then check in with PingPlotter to see what happened.
