I live in an apartment and share the internet with my landlord. I believe that these pingplotter results show that our netgear router is failing.

I read another article about a workaround with netgear routers, so i wanted to check to make sure i was getting accurate data and not just overloading the poor netgear router. http://www.pingplotter.com/netgear-rt314.html

The results show 80-90% packetloss at hop 2 with 1 minute long intervals. I have been suffering from crazy lag in games in frequent intervals.

I tried connecting to the modem directly to see the results but it couldn't configure an ip and get internet access. Is this where i renew a lease in CMD?

I was just able to update the firmware on the netgear router and pingplotter is showing great results. Hop 2 seems to have a high amount of packetloss but the other hops afterwards are not affected so that is probably my router not reacting well to the pingplotter request.

Hello,

Thanks for writing in - we're happy to hear you were able to get things working!

As long as the packet loss you're seeing at hop #2 doesn't carry through to your final destination, then it's usually nothing to worry about. Some routers don't prioritize ICMP echo requests very high (or don't respond to them at all). If you're interested, we cover this topic in a bit more detail here:

If you should find yourself with any questions, or needing any other guidance - please don't hesitate to let us know!

Best wishes,

-Gary
