Is there an easy solution to translate PP-alerts into some SNMP-trap-messages? Background: I want to use PP and its alerting-mechanism to send SNMP-traps to an existing NMS-system using SNMPv2-protocol.

Hi.

Ping Plotter alerts do not support SNMP. An upcoming release will allow you to launch an external file (.exe, for example) - which would allow you to launch another application to do the actual SNMP message. Would this be enough for your needs? What parameters would need to be sent to another application for it to do this alerting?

Hi Pete,

yes that would be ok, I found out that are a lot SNMP-trap tools available (f.i.TrapGen from www.ncomtech.com). The parameters to use must come from the alert-info from the log, so the name of the logfile is perhaps the easiest solution. I think a kind of intermediate tool must be started to interprete the log and then send according to this outcome an specific SNMP-trap?
