Hi, I'm currently using the free standard, and have been very impressed so will be purchasing a license when my next pay arrives.

The problem I have is that part of a chart has vanished. Not the whole chart, just part of it.

I checked the regular save files and you can see comparing one from the other that it's just gone.

Are you able to shed any light on how/why this happened and is it recoverable?

Many thanks.
Sim

Another part of the same chart has vanished. I had it in 48hour view originally, then when I switched to 24 hour view, it chopped another section out of the same chart mentioned above. Switching back to 48 hours has no affect, it seems to be gone permanently.

These "blank" parts in the time graph on intermediate hops come when the route changes and the router you're looking at is no longer participating in routing data to the final destination. During those periods, another router is collecting that data.

You can see the route changes in the left side of PingPlotter. We have a knowledge base article that discusses this a bit here:

also here:

Hopefully, that answers your question!

Hi Pete,

Thanks for responding.

I think I might not have made myself clear. The missing parts were present and visible. Then when I changed view from one time period to another, they vanished.

So there one moment, gone the next.

There wasn't a gap because the server changed and it had nothing to plot. It was plotting along fine. It was changing the view (e.g. from 48 hours to 6 hours) that caused the image to disappear.

Cheers,
Sim

Hi, Sim.

Each time you select a different time period, the route for that period is used. If the route changes, then selecting a time period before that route change will show a different list of routers than the one after that route change.

In the data you have in your first post, hop 3 has two different routers involved. Before 2:43:43pm, hop 3 is using router 220.232.2.61. After that point, it's 220.233.2.53. The data is all in the save files, but at different times different routers are involved, so the data is split between these two routers.

If you want to combine the data into a single "node" (and ignore that fact that there was a route change), you can do that by following the instructions here:

http://www.nessoft.com/kb/65

Best wishes,
Pete
