Hey, I have been having some disconnection problems in several applications and games, such as ventrilo, and eve-online that no one else is having. I have tried resetting my modem and router, setting dynamic and static ip's with no progress. I then found out about your ping plotter program which gives me a really good look at what exactly is going on when i ping the IP for EVE-Online. Here is the screenshot:

The latency is normal i think because of how far i live from the server, which has never been a problem. However I've noticed that I'm getting packet loss on the first two hops. I'm not sure if this means anything, but i have not seen a screenshot anywhere on the site where this is happening.

ALSO: I'm getting packet loss like this on EVERY ip/domain i try to use ping plotter on. Ive tried www.google.com, www.tucows.com, and www.download.com.

I'm not sure if this is a problem, or if its even hooked to my disconnection issues but I'm stuck and this is the only thing I've found.

I have comcast high speed internet and a linksys BEFSR41 v3 wired router.

Thanks a lot for your help

Hello.

This is not unusual, and does not indicate any problem. The final destination isn't showing packet loss, so there's no reason to believe the packet loss you see there is affecting you either. We talk about this in a variety of places, but here are a few:

http://www.nessoft.com/kb/6

http://www.nessoft.com/kb/24

http://www.nessoft.com/kb/47

We also have a discussion about intermediate hops that show a problem in our VoIP troubleshooting guide - it's not explicitly about gaming, but most of the concepts are the same.

http://www.pingplotter.com/tutorial/VoipTroubleshooting.html

The first graph picture in that article has packet loss at intermediate hops, and we talk about the intermediate hop packet loss there.

Alright thanks, i didn't think of searching for VoIP faq here, that's very helpful. I had read the other ones, but i ignored the "final destination" comment becuase i thought mine was a special exception because it was on my ISP's hops. I should of trusted the bold. Ill do a long term diagnostic and post it on the current discussion forums for the problem on eve.

I appreciate the help
